Active in Kurdish politics since the 1990s, Leyla Guven has been arrested and placed in police custody on several occasions.
First, when she was mayor of Viransehir in 2009, she was arrested in connection with the operations organized throughout Turkey against the Union of Kurdistan Communities (KCK).
His second arrest was for his criticism of Turkish military operations in Afrin canton, Syria. She publicly declared that these operations amounted to an invasion.
