Indigenous leaders make demands at global climate summit

In September 2018 indigenous and local community leaders from Latin America and Indonesia, the Guardians of the Forest, travelled to California with a mission to protect their forests and their peoples. From deep knowledge sharing with the Yurok nation, they brought their voices to the Global Climate Action Summit to ensure that their five demands be central to all climate policies and initiatives being brought forward. 1 - Respect our rights to land, territories and resources 2 - Guarantee free, prior, and informed consent about all decisions relating to our territories 3 - Zero violence and criminalization against community leaders 4 - Give direct access to financing for communities 5 - Elevate the value of indigenous traditional knowledge
